[In the Universal Calendar, this feast was celebrated last Thursday, on the Thursday after Pentecost, to mark an octave before Corpus Christi, but since Corpus Christi is transferred to this coming Sunday, in SACBC territories only, the feast is moved a week later, to the Thursday after the Most Holy Trinity, to commence a triduum leading to Corpus Christi. In non-SACBC territories, the Feria from Ordinary Time should be used as above.]

1546Peter Canisius is ordained, age 25. He has been a Jesuit for three years.
1769Clement XIV, the newly-elected Pope began to show coldness towards the Society.
1836Ampere, Andre-Marie dies in Marseille. He was a Jesuit Alumnus in the time of the suppression. He was born Jan. 20, 1775 in Lyon. A physicist, he founded and named the science of electrodynamics as Electromagnetism.
1933Charles Simons, of the California Province, is the first Jesuit ordained in China.
2008Norrie Clarke, S.J. dies, age 93. Philosopher, writer, Fordham University. Founder of the International Philosophical Quarterly.
