[In the Universal Calendar, this feast was celebrated last Thursday, on the Thursday after Pentecost, to mark an octave before Corpus Christi, but since Corpus Christi is transferred to this coming Sunday, in SACBC territories only, the feast is moved a week later, to the Thursday after the Most Holy Trinity, to commence a triduum leading to Corpus Christi. In non-SACBC territories, the Feria from Ordinary Time should be used as above.]

1540The arrival of Xavier at Lisbon on his way to India. Though he passed near his father's castle at Xavier, he would not call on his relatives.
1575Death of Father Castaneda, "who though Rector for many years, was told by the Provincial, Father Bustamante, to go and work in the kitchen. He cheerfully obeyed, and helped the cook for many months."
1611Jesuit Fathers Biard and Masse land at Annapolis in Nova Scotia. They are the first French Jesuits in North America.
1845Pope Gregory XVI refused the demand of the French government that the French Jesuits should be secularized and their houses closed.
1868Fr. Clement Boulanger dies. He was superior of the French Jesuits in Canada. He re-established the mission there. He was an official visitor to the U.S.A. and one of the founders of Fordham University.
1928A negative response of Father General Ledochowski on intercollegiate sports at Jesuit colleges. Non placet. He fears loss of study time, and too much travel involved.
1954Joseph Pignatelli is canonized.
