1523Ignatius arrives in Rome for the first time, on Palm Sunday. Four months later he leaves for Jerusalem.
1548The arrival of the first Jesuits missioned in Africa. These Jesuits were sent by Fr. Simon Rodrigues, Provincial of Portugal, at the request of the King of Kongo supported by the King of Portugal. They landed at Pinda, and made their way two days later to Mbanza Kongo, the capital of the kingdom of Kongo. They were four in number, Frs. Jorge Vaz, Cristovao Ribeiro, Jacome Dias and a scholastic, Diego do Soveral.
1800At Venice, the election of Pope Pius VII (Cardinal Chiaramonti), a Benedictine, who in 1814 restored the Society throughout the world.

1920Missouri Province tells Fr. General it is sending six men to work in Patna, India.
1976Alban de Jerphanion (age 75) professor, is killed in Beirut, Lebanon.
1985Fr. Nicolas Kluiters, S.J. parish priest, is kidnapped in Lebanon.
