1610 | Henry IV of France was assassinated, and a storm of obloquy broke over the Society in France. |
1648 | Pope Innocent X by a special Brief reproved Bishop Palafox of Angelopolis, Mexico, for suspending the Jesuits. Palafox had at one time professed greater attachment to the Society, but after the Jesuits refused to pay certain contributions or tithes which they deemed unjust, he became a bitter enemy. |
