On this day in our Jesuit history...

1521Ignatius miraculously began to recover from his wounds on the eve of the feast of St. Peter.
1554The construction of the Jesuit Church, Gesu, is entrusted to Michelangelo.
1670At Paris died Father Francis Annat, confessor to Louis XIV for sixteen years. He introduced into France quinine or "Jesuit's bark," and was instrumental in saving Louis XIV's life.
1767The arrival at Civita Vecchia of the first Spanish ship with the exiled members of the Castile province. They were not allowed to land, and the ship had to sail away to Corsica.
