1554St. Ignatius manifests the desire, if the Society allows, to go to Africa and work on the mission he established there.
1656At Meliapore died Father Robert de Nobili, nephew of Cardinal Bellarmine. Sent to the Madura Mission, he learned to speak three languages and for 45 years labored with great fruit among the Brahmins of the highest caste.
1679In Wales Fr. Ignatius Price, pursued for alleged complicity in the Titus Oates plot, dies of exhaustion and exposure to the cold.
1860At Calcutta, Belgian Jesuits opened St. Francis Xavier College.
