1662Pascal dies age 39, at the Convent of Port Royal. He wrote his Pensees and Provincial Letters.
1743Charles Plowden is born. After the Restoration of the Society, he was the Provincial of England, and was the first Rector of Stonyhurst.
1880The Province of Maryland-New York is first so styled. In 1804 it was a simple mission. In 1833 the Province of Maryland was erected. In 1879, New York Mission was added and styled New York Province. In 1880 the name was changed to the present one.
1908Joseph Neuner (Teachings of the Catholic Church) – missionary to India, born. Was 100 in 2008.
1914Father General Wernz dies and a few hours later, next day, St. Pius X dies.
1914The death of Father General Francis Xavier Wernz, thirty-ï¬fth superior general. A noted canonist, he devoted himself to the internal life of the Society.
1978Anthony I Russo-Alesi, S.J. dies The Boy Savior Movement.
