Charles Plowden is born. After the Restoration of the Society, he was the Provincial of England, and was the first Rector of Stonyhurst.

The Province of Maryland-New York is first so styled. In 1804 it was a simple mission. In 1833 the Province of Maryland was erected. In 1879, New York Mission was added and styled New York Province. In 1880 the name was changed to the present one.
