The saints commemorated today had made their homeland their mission fields. Bernardine Realino (1530-1616), did extensive priestly ministries in Lecce, Italy, for forty-two years. John Francis Régis (1597-1640), one of the great figures of the Catholic Reformation, devoted himself to helping the poor materially and spiritually in France, Francis Jerome (1642-1716) was an outstanding preacher in Italy. Julian Maunoir (1606-1683) spent forty-three years in Brittany, France, preaching about 400 missions. Anthony Baldinucci (1665-1717) gave missions based on the Spiritual Exercises in Italy.
