Pope Paul III assigned the church of Our Lady of the Way to the Society of Jesus. It was a small church but St. Ignatius highly esteemed its location in the heart of Rome.

At Cracow died John Laskowski, a Polish scholastic, who though not conscious of any mortal sin in his whole life was nonetheless so tormented with scruples that his confessor considered him a martyr of interior suffering.

At Rome, gangs of miscreants paraded the streets crying out: "Death to the Friars! Death to the Jesuits!."
