Election as General of Father Alexander Gottifredo. He died about six weeks after his election, and before the close of the Congregation.

Claude Francois Menestrier, S.J. dies. He wrote a classic history of ballet, and created a ballet for Louis XIV performed at the College of Louis-le-Grand.

The death in Rome of Ignatius Romberg. He was the German Assistant at the time of the Suppression and was imprisoned with Fr. General Ricci in Castel San Angelo.
