1758 | Laurence Ricci is elected General. He was chosen to guide the Society through a sea of storms. He will die in 1775 after imprisonment in Castel S. Angelo. |
1925 | Pius XI canonizes Peter Canisius, with Teresa of the Child Jesus and Mary Madeleine Postal, Madeleine Sophie Barat, John Vianney, and John Eudes. Canisius is declared a Doctor of the Church. |
2003 | The death of Victor Mertens, S.J. age 90. He had been Vice-Provincial and Provincial of Central Africa, Counselor to Fr. General and Assistant for Africa from 1971-80. |
