1558 | St. Francis Borgia preaches the eulogy for the Emperor Charles V at Valladolid. |
1761 | At Lisbon, the martyrdom of Fr. Gabriel Malagrida, aged seventy two. Pombal's inquisitors had found him guilty of heresy in a life of St. Anne written not by him, but by the ex- Capuchin, Norbert. He died by strangulation and the flames. |
