1523The arrival of St. Ignatius in Jerusalem after a voyage of 98 days.
1679The martyrdom at Cardiff, Wales, of St. Philip Evans.
1730Daniel Carroll, is born. Jesuit educated, Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.
1943The death of Brother Justine Gillet, founder of the botanical gardens at Kisantu, Zaire. He helped classify many plants and plant new crops and types of crops.
1958Today and two days later, four Jesuits are arrested in East Germany, and found guilty. They serve an average of three years in prison.
1995George Soares-Prabhu, S.J. dies in India. He was a Biblical scholar and teacher.
2001Paul Reinert, S.J. dies, age 90. He was President of St. Louis University from 1949-74.
