Mary Ward is born. She founded the Institute of Mary, or the English Ladies, an institute of apostolic women, also called the Jesuitesses, which was later suppressed, and she was imprisoned. This is the date in the Old Style Calendar.

Pascal published his first Provincial Letter against the Society of Jesus.

The publication of Pascal's First Provincial Letter against the Society. Others followed at intervals until March 27, 1657. In 1658 they were condemned at Rome, and on October l0, 1660 publicly burnt by the French King's order.
