On this day, Fr. General Roothaan’s letter declaring Missouri an independent mission (from Maryland) finally reaches the Missouri Jesuits. Their superior is Fr. Theodore De Theux. He communicated this to the 15 members of the Society in the West. This status gives the mission the privilege of having its own novitiate.
