Tirso Gonzalez dies 13th General of the Society. He was a Promoter of the missions in China, India, Americas, and in Europe too.

Christophe Munzihirwa Mwene Ngabo SJ, archbishop of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic was murdered. He had denounced the political and economic exploitation of hundreds of thousands of Rwandan refugees who sought refuge in Kivu.
