1683The death of St. Julian Maunoir, known as "the Apostle of Britany" for preaching missions to the poor in the northwest of France for 42 years.
1853Fr. Gen. John Roothaan, wishing to resign his office, summoned a General Congregation, but died on May 8th, before it assembled.
1957The Jesuit Volunteer Corps was founded in the United States.
