1566On the island of Tatacuran, off the coast of Florida, Father Pedro Martinez was killed by savages the moment he set foot on land. He was the first Jesuit in USA, and the first Jesuit martyr in USA.
1566The death of Pedro Martinez, the ï¬rst Jesuit to enter the continental United States. He was killed by natives on the island of Tatacuran, Florida.
1572Fifteen Jesuits arrive in Mexico, including Fr. Sanchez, as Provincial, to establish the Mexican Province. They soon open a college.
1972Erich Przywara dies. Writer, theologian.
1978Ben Masse, S.J. dies Assistant Editor of America, 1941-71.
2009The death of Paul Besanceny, S.J., age. 85. He served as Provincial of Detroit nand the Eastern Africa Province, and then served in Sudan.
