Paul Miki, John Soan de Goto, and James Kisai are martyred on this day. Paul was a scholastic, arrested just before his ordination, age 33. John was a scholastic, age 19, and James was a brother, age 64. He had been married, and then his wife apostasized. He worked for and then joined the Jesuits. They had been dragged 600 miles through Japan, and are the first martyrs in Japan.
