1564At Lima died Francis Lopez, who had resigned the high office of Visitor General of the Kingdom of Peru to become a lay Brother in the Society.
1564Pius IV, hearing that his nephew St. Charles Borromeo felt drawn to the Society, forbad Lainez and Ribadenairs to enter the Apostolic Palace.
1960The Vatican Secretariat for Christian Unity is established. Cardinal Bea is the first President, from 1960 to his death in 1968.
1986John Mahoney is named professor of moral theology in King’s College, the University of London, the first Catholic priest to hold that chair.
