1753 | John Carroll enters the Society of Jesus. |
1762 | Pope Clement XIII issued a bull declaring the sentence of the French Parliament against the Society on August 6th to be null and void. |
1847 | During the revolution in Rome loud cries were heard in the streets, "Death to the Jesuits." |
1911 | The first retreat is held at Mt. Manresa, Staten Island, at a retreat house exclusively for laity. Fr. Shealy is the director. The retreat house, Fox Hall villa, was purchased in April, with 20 acres. |
1923 | During his term as General, Wlodimir Ledochowski summoned two general congregations, something that no one else had done since the time of Aquaviva. The first, GC27,he convoked for September 1922, to bring the Society into conformity with the new Code of Canon Law (1917); the second, GC28, in 1938, was to elect a vicar to assist him in governing the Society. |
